I am so high I could nearly fly
But only to crash to earth
My Daedalus wings have forgotten to sing
I fly too close to the sun
I hear your footfall
Behind and within
And am enchanted with your
Eurydice step
But I have flown too high, love
And the sun melts my wings
An affront to Apollo or Helios
But I have soared
I have flown in the glory of your love
If then I must fall then be it so!
Let my voice ring in love or sorrow
And I – no Orpheus brought – will in poems write
Your name
Even as my wings fail
Even as I swoon below
Even as I fall to earth
In this sunlit descent
You’re an angel, only meant to soar and soar higher. Even if you fall, Earth will only be blessed to have an angel among the humans. 🥰🥺
